See Event Description

The Rou Dalagurr: Food Sovereignty Lab and Traditional Ecological Knowledges Institute’s annual Indigenous Foods Festival will take place on Sunday, October 11th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wiyot Plaza in between the Behavioral and Social Sciences Building and the Native American Forum at the cross streets of Union and 16th Street in Goudi’ni (arcata).
This free food festival focuses on uplifting Indigenous food sovereignty across many regions. The festival includes a tabling area, where organizations host demonstrations, educational materials, books, food, jewelry, and art. The day also features presentations, discussion panels, film screenings, music, workshops, and more. Food sales will be provided by local beloved businesses: Frybread Love and Los Giles.
“We are so proud of the work our students and staff have put in to making this festival such a successful event each and every year. This is such an amazing opportunity for people to connect with each other and learn from Indigenous knowledges and place-based learning,” said Dr. Cutcha Risling Baldy, co-director of the lab.
The festival is funded by Cal Poly Humboldt Native American Studies Department, The Sustainable Humboldt Innovative Futures Trust (SHIFT), Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, and individual donors. The Rou Dalagurr Food Sovereignty Lab is an interdisciplinary, collaborative effort that is student-designed and community-informed. The purpose of the FSL is to provide an opportunity to work directly with the surrounding communities, tribal nations, and national and international scholars and community leaders to center, learn, and engage with Indigenous science, environmental management, and preservation practices. This year the lab is celebrating the launch of new initiatives and partner programs like Blue Lake Rancheria’s Good Fire Healing Coalition and the FSL Marine Relatives Initiative.
The lab continues to host workshops, special tours, speaking events, and garden volunteer days. Most of the programs and projects that the lab supports are grant or donor funded. To support the lab, please visit our donation page: giving.humboldt.edu/nas-lab-fund.
The Indigenous Foods Festival is free and open to the public. To find out additional information or see the published schedule for the festival, visit our website: humboldt.edu/food-sovereignty/indigenous-foods-festival.
