Jacoby Creek Pull and Plant
The Watershed Stewards Program and the Jacoby Creek Land Trust are organizing a day of cottonwood planting and invasive removal along Jacoby Creek, which provides spawning habitat for endangered Coho Salmon as well as threatened Chinook Salmon and Steelhead Trout. Removing invasive Himalayan blackberry and English Ivy will encourage the growth of natural riverbank plants to better shade the water and reduce erosion. Volunteers will learn how to identify invasive blackberry and removal techniques, as well as planting techiniques and the importance of native plants in salmonid habitats. The work will conclude with a free barbecue and raffle, and snacks and coffee will be provided.
The event is located at Jacoby Creek Land Trust, 2182 Old Arcata Rd, Bayside, CA, 95524. From Highway 101 between Eureka and Arcata, turn east onto the Bayside Cutoff and proceed to Old Arcata Road. Turn left on Old Arcata Road and drive 0.3 miles until arriving at 2182 Old Arcata Road. Follow signs for WSP and Jacoby Creek Land Trust. Pull into the gravel driveway on the right-hand side of the road and turn right into the pasture to park.
