Breakfast All Day Presents:
Jeff Rosentock (Bomb the Music Industry!, Punk from New York)
https://jeffrosenstock.bandcamp.com/
www.youtube.com/watch?v=JidJV1ue1lI
For the past ten years, Rosenstock stood at the helm of Brooklyn-based DIY stalwarts Bomb the Music Industry! - a collective that pioneered pay-what-you-can self-recorded albums, offered hand-created merch for donations and still managed to tour the world. After a decade of not only traveling in the same weathered van, but also spent attempting to passionately record densely-layered punk anthems in noisy practice spaces and crowded New York City apartments, Rosenstock was due for a change of scenery. So he went to California.
Recorded by Jack Shirley (Joyce Manor, Deafheaven), whose Bay area Atomic Garden studio played host to Rosenstock’s new band, We Cool? is sonically ambitious, overdriven, and immediate. Along with a band featuring Hard Girls guitarist Mike Huguenor, Bruce Lee Band drummer Kevin Higuchi, and former Bomb bassist John DeDomenici, the foundation of each song was recorded live to tape inside of a day. “You laughing with me getting lost in weird cities, ‘cause we’ll never go back, we’ll never go back”, Jeff cries, and every word that he says comes off as incredibly genuine and passionate. This is a love letter to that one person who can always bring sunshine into a cloudy day, and he sells it.
Upset (Pop Punk from LA)
https://laurenrecords.bandcamp.com/album/76
Upset is something of a supergroup at this point. Previously, vocalist/guitarist Ali Koehler played drums in Vivian Girls and Best Coast, and Upset’s current drummer, Patty Schemel, was formerly Hole’s percussionist. Bass player Rachel Gagliardi is also in Slutever, and guitarist Lauren Freeman is a member of Long Beach pop punk garage outfit Benny The Jet Rodriguez (formerly Jennifer Prince of La Sera was part of the group). Listening to Upset drives all these other bands completely out of your mind, though, with their smattering of pop-punk energy and anxiety-addled rock riffs.
Soar (Bay Area DIY Rock from members of Joyride, Watercolor Paintings, Void Boys and Dreamspoiler)
