Jenny Scheinman’s Kannapolis

Arkley Center For The Performing Arts

Conceived by local favorite and internationally acclaimed musician Jenny Scheinman, Kannapolis: A Moving Portrait brings together live music by Scheinman (fiddle/voice), Robbie Fulks (banjo/voice) and Robbie Gjersoe (guitars/voice) with Depression-era historical footage. We are invited into the captivating visual world of H. Lee Waters who documented over 100 small towns in the southeast between 1936 and 1942. His films are of regular people going about their lives - mill workers streaming out of factories, a mother and daughter dancing on a dirt road, children racing in slow motion. Feature filmmaker Finn Taylor has re-edited these iconic images and set them to Scheinman’s music, creating an experience that celebrates American resilience and the sustaining power of community. The Washington Post called it “A beautifully coordinated melding of music and film,,,a vivid image of small-town life.” Reserved seating at brownpapertickets.com or Wildberries Marketplace.
