Jerry Martien

Arcata Playhouse

Jerry Martien brings half a century of experience sharing poetry to local audiences to the Playhouse Theatre. A succession of chapbooks and poetry collections have sold in area bookstores till they’ve gone out of print. Reading to the community has always been the heart of his work. Accompanying Martien, as they have for several years, musicians Fred Neighbor and Gary Richardson bring their own long-time connection to the community through many bands and collaborations. Strings carry the voice, and it resonates with all that history. The reading will gather poems from the edge of Humboldt Bay, from before history arrived till history’s retreat due to coastal flooding, then east to the desert edge and over. Some of Martien’s work is being reprinted by Many Names Press, another part of local history, and copies will be available.
