Kekexili: Mountain Patrol

Westhaven Center for the Arts

In June, 2017, twelve Northcoast Prep Academy students will be traveling to the Tibetan Plateau to Yushu, a city recovering from a recent earthquake. With the help of the Rotary Club of Eureka and Whirlwind Wheelchairs, they will be bringing terrain appropriate wheelchairs to those in need in the community. The students are and will learn about Chinese and Tibetan culture and history, and will produce a short booklet when they return. Come support these students by attending their movie night on Wednesday, May 17th, at 7 PM at the Westhaven Center for the Arts (501 Westhaven Drive). The film Kekexili: Mountain Patrol follows a group of semi-government supported Tibetan activists who chase down antelope poachers in the Hoh Xil region of Qinghai, near Yushu. These hardened men face the obstacles of a rugged, thin air environment, criminals armed with guns, a serious lack of funding, and a heavy moral dillemma. Come join us on May 17th! There will be refreshments, snacks, and baked goods for sale as well!!
