Kevin Ebbert Memorial Highway Dedication
A portion of Highway 101 in Arcata, California, has been dedicated by the State of California in honor of Kevin R. Ebbert, a local man who was killed in action in Afghanistan on November 24, 2012.
The dedication ceremony will be held June 12, 2016 in the Arcata Community Center. Doors open at noon and the ceremony begins at 1 p.m.
Kevin Ebbert grew up in Arcata, graduated from Arcata High School, and then went on to graduate from UC Santa Cruz before enlisting in the military to become a Navy SEAL. SO1 Kevin Ebbert was leading his element to help US forces under attack by the Taliban when they were ambushed. While moving into position to radio for support, Ebbert was fatally wounded by enemy fire.
SO1 Ebbert received two bronze stars for acts of valor in combat when he risked his own life to save the lives of several teammates during deployments to Afghanistan. He had recently been accepted to Old Dominion University in Virginia and was just weeks away from returning home to complete a second degree in biology and pursue a career in medicine.
“There are so many people locally and at the State level that came together to make this designation happen in honor of Kevin. The family is very grateful to all who have contributed time and effort, money and support.” stated Kevin’s mom, Charlie Jordan.
The public is invited to join the family, teammates, friends, and local and State dignitaries at the dedication ceremony.
