Humboldt Jiu Jitsu Academy is hosting a Parents & Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Workshop in Arcata at 1041 F Street on Sunday, December 11, from 11am - 12:30. No experience necessary. All kids and parents or guardians are welcome to come and train.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is considered the most effective martial arts in the world. It is considered non-violent because no strikes or kicks are included. Smaller people can use leverage and technique to get out of the grasp of an attacker and even subdue them. Students can expect to get a good basic understanding of BJJ along with learning confidence, gaining skills and making friends.

The instructor is 3rd Degree Black Belt from Rio de Janeiro, Marcello Daflon. Marcello is the head instructor at Humboldt Jiu Jitsu Academy in Arcata. He has taught martial arts to youth all over the world including Brazil, Austria, and Italy.

Marcello’s passion is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and he enjoys seeing the good that it does in the lives of his students. Under his guidance, kids begin to learn the foundational ideas behind the movements of Jiu Jitsu, they get to play games that develop body awareness and movement skills, while also beginning to learn the very real, and very practical art of self-defense.
Jiu Jitsu requires working with partners, so kids develop social skills and learn respect.
Learning from Marcello ensures that kids who train with him are receiving the best in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction in all of Humboldt County.

A multi-linguist with a martial arts background that began in childhood, Marcello started in Judo in 1998 and moved to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2006 at the age of 18. Competing at every belt, he is currently a 1st Degree Black Belt from the Carlson Gracie Team, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Masters: Ari Galo and the legendary Carlson Gracie Jr.

Tickets are $20 per parent/child team and can be purchased in advance through Eventbrite, over the phone, or at the door.

Dress code: loose clothing. Students will be barefooted on the mat. Please bring water.
