Lantern Floating Ceremony

Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary

Come to the 33rd annual Lantern Floating Ceremony at the Arcata Marsh on Saturday, August 15. This uniquely Arcata take on an age-old Japanese ceremony honors both those who died in the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings as well as family and friends who have passed away. The program is sponsored by local peace groups and features poetry and music, followed at dusk by the launch of lanterns carrying messages to departed loved ones. Make your lantern at the Arcata Farmers’ Market on the northwest side of the Arcata Plaza on Saturday morning, August 15, then join us at Klopp Lake at the Arcata Marsh in the evening from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Parking is limited so please carpool, and bring a lawn chair and a flashlight.
