‘Legacies of the Lost Cause: Confederate Symbols, Monuments, and Flags and What They Stand For’

Humboldt State’s Department of History invites you to the keynote address for its annual Undergraduate History Conference. Keynote speaker Dr. David Coffey will discuss “Legacies of the Lost Cause: Confederate Symbols, Monuments, and Flags and What They Stand For” on Friday, April 6, from 5:30-7 p.m. in Founders Hall 118. He will discuss the inflammatory nature of Confederate symbols and how and why certain symbols came to exist. Coffey, who holds a Ph.D. from Texas Christian University, is professor of history and chair of the Department of History and Philosophy at the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he offers classes in U.S., military, and Mexican history.
