Lecture on Fish

Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center

Join Lily Olmo for a free presentation entitled “Life Beneath the Surface: Exploring Fish in the Arcata Marsh.” Her 1-hour talk is part of the First Wednesday Lecture Series sponsored by Friends of the Arcata Marsh. Lily is a Master’s candidate in fisheries biology at Cal Poly Humboldt who spends her weekends wading in the water to learn more about fish in human-made wetlands. Along with a team of undergraduate technicians, she sampled wetland ponds within the Arcata Marsh and the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Her team revealed important findings about the abundance, diversity, and life histories of fish in the ponds, while also exploring the unique environmental conditions of these human-made ponds. Understanding these fish communities is crucial for the conservation of local wildlife that depend on these fish as food.
