Lecture on Ravens & Snowy Plovers

Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center

Join recent Cal Poly Humboldt wildlife graduate Janelle Chojnacki to be enlightened about “Ravens & Plovers: Local Research, Ecology, and Fascinating Behaviors of Two Species at Odds.” This FOAM-sponsored presentation will delve into the local and national natural history and behavior of both species. Janelle’s research centered around the natural history of ravens in coastal Humboldt, using GPS tracking data and behavioral surveys to better understand the causal factors of their high abundance here. Their numbers make them problematic for the organisms they prey upon, including threatened species like the Western snowy plover. Ravens are the dominant nest predator of snowy plovers. The presentation will be simulcast via Zoom at https://humboldtstate.zoom.us/j/82423705881?pwd=DERmb9OXoihpiQybSsSCbZc1jzAmpL.1.
