Les Claypool’s Duo de Twang

Humboldt Brews

Leslie Edward “Les” Claypool is a singer, lyricist, bassist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, best known for his work with the alternative rock band Primus. Claypool’s mastery of the electric bass has brought him into the spotlight with his funky, creative playing style: mixing finger-tapping, flamenco-like strumming, and a Larry Graham-esque slap technique, Claypool has developed his own unique style. Along the way, he has also earned respect as one of rock’s premier bass talents and has become an influence for many of today’s younger bassists. In addition to his work with Primus, Claypool has also self-produced and self-engineered solo releases from his own studio Rancho Relaxo. In 2006, Claypool began experimenting with filmmaking, an experience that resulted in the release of the feature film Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo. Written and directed by Claypool, Electric Apricot was shown at a series of film festivals; the mockumentary even won the Best Feature award at the Malibu Film Festival. 2006 was also witness to the release of Clayton’s first published book, a novel titled South of the Pumphouse. Three years later, Claypool released his second solo album Of Fungi and Foe. Though he has recorded with Primus in the years since (most recently on the group’s seventh studio album Green Naugahyde, released in 2011), Of Fungi and Foe remains Claypool’s latest solo record.
