Local Filmmaker’s Night: As Simple As Asking
Eureka High School Lecture Hall
On Wednesday, October 11th, at the Eureka High School Lecture Hall, Local Filmmakers Night screening series will be presenting a collection of short films by Dr. Michael Fratkin and Bogy Levesque. Michael D. Fratkin, MD is a father, husband, your neighbor, as well as a doctor specializing in team based home care for people that are very sick. He is the founder of ResolutionCare, a people powered, technology enabled, palliative care program arising right here in Humboldt County with a mission to bring capable and compassionate care to everyone everywhere in the face of serious illness. Dr. Fratkin recognized that people going through the toughest moments have something important to say and is not surprised that they have a passion to share their wisdom. Bogart Levesque is a Humboldt County native filmmaker. He graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in film. Having survived his own life-threatening illness as a teenager, the opportunity to capture the lives of those also facing terminal diseases greatly appealed to him. He’s been inspired by the courage and charisma of the subjects in his films. His inspiration comes from many other places: old movies, new movies, nature and the ocean. Besides shooting documentaries, he loves to create time-lapses, long exposures and panoramas. Local Filmmakers Night, a collaboration between Access Humboldt, Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission and Eureka High School Media Club, is a screening series that supports and promotes the local film community. These events offers an inside look at the filmmaking process by encouraging the filmmakers to share their challenges and learning. Following the screening, attendees can enjoy Q & A session, movie trivia, prizes, and a reception at the adjacent Access Humboldt’s Community Media Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Screening starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and all are welcome to attend.
