Luna: A Beacon of Hope

See Event Description

On Saturday, December 14th, Sanctuary Forest warmly invites you to join us for a very special occasion—Luna: A Beacon of Hope, an evening commemorating 25 years since the preservation of the iconic redwood tree, Luna. This heartfelt celebration will take place at the historic Scotia Lodge in Scotia, and we would be honored to have you with us.

Starting at 5 pm, VIP ticket guests will be treated to a gourmet vegetarian dinner by J Catering, followed by an exclusive talk from julia butterfly hill, whose courageous 738-day tree-sit in Luna ensured the preservation of this ancient redwood This is a rare opportunity to hear julia speak in depth about her experiences and activism journey, making for a truly memorable evening.

If you’re unable to join us for dinner, you can still be a part of the celebration! From 7-10pm, we’ll be dancing the night away with fantastic local music. Indie rock and funk sensation Wolf Tree will open the evening, followed by the spirited Jenny & David and the Sweet Soul Band, guaranteed to ger everyone moving! julia will also make a special appearance during this portion of the evening, so all attendees will have the chance to see her. Don’t forget to come prepared to bid on some amazing silent auction items!

This event marks the 25th anniversary of a remarkable achievement. In 1999, julia butterfly hill descended from Luna after spending over two years protecting her. Thanks to a historic agreement between the landowner, julia, and conservation advocates, Luna was saved through a Covenant—a conservation easement that Sanctuary Forest has lovingly upheld ever since. We have been dedicated stewards of Luna’s health and future, ensuring her place in the landscape for generations to come. Sanctuary Forest, founded in 1987 and based in Whitethorn, California, is a land and water trust dedicated to conserving and restoring the Mattole River watershed, with nearly 12,000 acres under our care.

Note: In keeping with her personal philosophy, julia butterfly hill prefers her name to be written in lowercase.

Reserve a room at the Scotia Lodge before December 1 and get a 10% discount! Tickets and room discount link available at www.sanctuaryforest.org.
