Magic Fig {sf} + Western Extra

The Miniplex at Richards’ Goat Tavern

Magic Fig is a San Francisco psych-pop group composed of Inna Showalter (vocals, mellotron), Jon Chaney (keyboards, piano), Muzzy Moskowitz (guitar), Matthew Ferrara (bass), and Taylor Giffin (drums, percussion). All arrive from varying musical projects across the always-vibrant San Francisco scene (The Umbrellas, Healing Potpourri, Whitney’s Playland, Almond Joy). Magic Fig’s self-titled debut EP (Silver Current Records, 2024) took the listener through secret worlds and strange but oddly familiar terrains. Their new full-length LP Valerian Tea (Exploding in Sound Records, 2025) builds from a swirling mass of instrumentation including piano, synthesizers, glockenspiel, organ, and 12-string acoustic and electric guitars. The album, brought to life in a patient, drawn-out process, sees the band dive even further into their lush and layered sound.

“The band create a captivating backdrop as well, never leaning into pastiche, but channeling the exploratory spirit of their influences.” -Raven Sings the Blues

Arrive on time for an opening set from Humboldt’s own Western Extra, who’s music shifts in kaleidoscope shades; damaged and dirty one minute, delicate and demure the next.
