Mardi Gras Party w/ The Paula Jones Band
The Playhouse invites the public to the Ten Pin Building for a Mardi Gras Party with The Paula Jones Band on Saturday, February 22nd at 8 p.m. Remember how awesome the Latin Peppers Dance Party in January was in the Ten Pin? Well, luckily you can celebrate on the dance floor lined by parked kinetic sculptures one more time! And if you don’t remember, this is a rare chance to boogie in the Ten Pin. This Playhouse event raises funds for Playhouse programs that enrich the lives of all ages in our community through the support of arts for all. Bring your dancing shoes and let the good times roll! Humboldt County’s Paula Jones Band includes Tim Randles on piano, Allison Muenchon sax & flute, special guest Mike Labolle on drums, and of course Paula Jones with vocals. Front-man Paula Jones grew up singing in the church along with her five sisters and her church pastor’s father. At age 11 she started performing in musical theatre. She fronted her own band in Sacramento, and had one of her original songs in the movie Rumble Fish. A premier soloist for the Arcata Interfaith Gospel Choir, she has been featured on a PBS concert special. Her style mixes the spiritual intensity of the gospel with the subtle creativity of jazz and the driving rhythms of R&B. Her stream of consciousness delivery always entrances audiences wherever she performs. You won’t want to miss this! Mardi Gras is an annual festival held in France on the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” — meaning it is the last opportunity to eat rich food before the fast of Lent begins. Traditional Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans are all about music, food, and excitement. Wear your purple, green and gold garb and help the Paula Jones Band bring the festivities to Arcata.
