Mariachi de Humboldt and the Cal Poly Humboldt Wind Ensemble

The Department of Dance, Music, and Theatre at Cal Poly Humboldt presents “Mariachi de Humboldt and The Cal Poly Humboldt Wind Ensemble.” This joint concert will feature the Mariachi de Humboldt in the first part of the program and, after a brief intermission, will continue with performances by the Wind Ensemble. A first ever for the ensemble will be a hip-hop dance demonstration of KRUMPING. This precedes a performance of KRUMP by Scott McAlister. Join us Friday, April 28th at 8:00 p.m. in Fulkerson Recital Hall. Concert tickets are $10 General, $5 Children, and FREE for Cal Poly Humboldt students with ID. Mariachi de Humboldt, fresh off a tour, will be performing a collection of Mariachi tunes: Nieves de Enero by Chalino Sánchez, Cien Años by Rubén Fuentes, Cucurrucucú Paloma by Tomás Méndez, Lágrimas Negras by Miguel Matamoros, El Rey by José Alfredo Jiméne, Hermoso Cariño by Fernando Z. Maldonado, La Llorona (Traditional), Amor Eterno by Juan Gabriel, Las Alazanas by Rubén Fuentes, Son de la Negra (Traditional), and Jarabe Tapatío by Jesús González Rubio

After a brief intermission, the wind ensemble will perform a program titled “Let’s Dance.” They will perform Suite of Old American Dances by Robert Russell Bennett. Sonata for Trumpet and Wind Ensemble featuring Andrew Henderson, trumpet soloist, by Kent Kennan.

This will be followed by an interlude where students Thi Samelsen and Gabby Jones will lead a hip-hop demonstration on the dance style KRUMP.

The ensemble will then perform KRUMP by Scott McAlister.

The program concludes with a performance of Four Dances from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein
