Mateel Community Center presents their monthly Comedy Cabaret. The funniest comedians from both far and near come together each month to bring you the very best stand-up comedy in Humboldt County. We’ll help prepare you to spring forward with laughter, because let’s face it, springing forward sucks. March features one of the Bay Area’s most talented comedians – Matt Lieb. Joining him are Cheryl White, Humboldt’s own Kim Hodges, Josh Barnes, and host Tony Persico. Matt Lieb is a comedian, writer, actor and street musician/Bone Thugs-N-Harmony cover band. He was named “one of my all-time favorite Bay Area performers” by the award-winning SF blog Courting Comedy and described as “extremely talented, charmingly dark and genuinely pleasant.” He won 2nd place at the 2004 KZSC Comedy Competition, but the guy who won 1st place no longer does comedy so Matt basically won 1st place. He also won 1st place at the 2013 Rooster-T-Feathers Comedy Competition, which was very validating for him. Matt Lieb has opened for many legendary performers including W. Kamau Bell, Gilbert Gottfried, Jeff Ross, Rory Scovel, Ryan Papazian and 3rd Eye Blind. He is also Glenn Danzig’s neighbor and Emmy-winner Camryn Manheim is a family friend. Now a full-time comedian and dating single lady, she shares stories about her present and past experiences as a mother, bartender, phone psychic and a sailor in the Caribbean, peppering them with sassy commentary. Cheryl is the creator and co-host of DateTalk, where she’s looking for love and podcasting the leftovers. As a bountiful brunette with can’t-miss jokes, she leaves her audiences slightly confused, a little smarter and definitely satisfied. Cheryl has been featured in festivals such as the io West Los Angeles Improv Comedy Festival, Eagle Rock Comedy Festival (LA) and the Redwood Comedy Festival. She has performed at venues on both coasts including the LA Comedy Store, SF Cobb’s Comedy Club, Throckmorton Theatre, SF Punchline and in Las Vegas at the Sapphire Lounge, the world’s largest gentlemen’s club. She advised the strippers there to get nude photos taken sooner rather than later. Barnes matches his anecdotal wisdom with an “everybody’s favorite dad” charm. Turning childhood nostalgia on its head, Barnes expresses his own concepts of America’s family values. A former Air Force Man, Barnes delivers a commanding performance whether he’s recounting the times his son has shamed him or detailing his beliefs of life’s purpose. With an intense personality and sometimes dark perspective, Tony covers everything from religion and politics to the frustrations of driving and being attacked by a public toilet. Tony performs regularly all over Humboldt County and semi-regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was a part of the 2013 and 2015 Savage Henry Comedy Festivals and has been a contributor to Savage Henry Independent Times Magazine. In addition, Tony produces comedy shows in Humboldt County, bringing the best comedians from all over the West Coast and beyond behind the Redwood Curtain to make this place a little funnier.
