Meet the Artists: Diane Sonderegger & Jane Ziegler
Diane Sonderegger’s new work reflects an ongoing fascination with the wonders of the North Coast, in particular, Slugs and Bigfoot, both of which lend themselves to fantasy and amusement. Her clay sculptures are formed, dried, carved, textured, bisque-fired, and then glazed and fired a second time, a three-dimensional process whose subtle accidents give character to the finished works.
For Jane Ziegler, the inspiration that gets her going is nature, whether it be a landscape, a tree or a close-up of a flower. Sunflowers are a favorite subject. And light. “I am fascinated by how sunlight behaves on a subject. What does sunlight do when it shines on a landscape or a garden of flowers?” Jane works in two mediums: oil pastels on black Arches paper (often en plein air) and oil paints on canvas (back in the studio).
