Memorial for People Killed by Cars

This is a gathering for friends and families to remember those who have been killed by cars while walking, biking or rolling in Humboldt County, and for community members to acknowledge and honor the losses. Too often, the lives of people killed on our streets are minimized or ignored, or the victims blamed for their own deaths. At this event, we will read the names of those killed, hold space for friends and family members to speak about their lost loved ones if they wish, and talk about what can be done to prevent future tragedies.

There will also be a short, silent walk of commemoration in downtown Eureka, where we will contemplate the vulnerability of pedestrians in the current streetscape. This is a public event, and all are invited to participate respectfully.

The event will be led by Rev. Molly Cate, and social workers will be present to provide support for those grieving.
