Morher, Kole Galbraith, Matchess, TALsounds
A Night of Experimental Music with: Morher: Morher is the musical project of Ambrosia Bardos, a multimedia artist based in Seattle and Chicago (fka wrtch). They create swells of sound and silence using vocalization and biometric data in tandem with analog sound manipulation. Their work is improvised with the intentionality of body plus electronics functioning as a channel. Morher’s work is informed by their diasporic Rroma and indigenous Quileute ancestry; in dialogue with Queer genealogies; in process with experiences of crisis and catharsis as survival, and as a consensual sex worker and survivor of pre-verbal trauma. Their artwork is a vessel for liminal spaces of communion. https://soundcloud.com/okaamnesia/wealth-1 https://www.okaamnesia.com/ Kole Galbraith: Sound artist Kole Galbraith creates deep drones by exploring the flexibility and viability of electric bass guitar’s revolutionary aspects, approaching with manners both traditional and unconventional to achieve delicate and gutturally cathartic possibilities. Weaving maximalism and minimalism, Kole mimics sounds found in nature while also generating cosmic layers, resulting in emotionally expressive pieces. A Pacific Northwest Native, he discovered improvisational techniques while living in Austria jamming with Balkan musicians, and has since returned home as an active artist performing primarily in art galleries and DIY spaces. https://soundcloud.com/kolegalbraith/i-1 Matchess: Experimental musician Whitney Johnson’s solo work has always toed the line between the corporeal vs. metaphysical - the juxtaposition of the physical interaction of viola strings & the electronic pulses of circuits & oscillators. Matchess continues to evolve, both recorded & in a live setting & Johnson has only begun to allow us, the listener to hear her potential. Johnson’s extraterrestrial soundscapes pulse and writhe, at times sounding like funeral hymns (opener “Of The Living”) or spiritual invocations, summoning forth the circuit-fried ghosts in the machine that dwell just beyond. (”Of Freedom”, or the mournful “The Misty Realm”) Johnson approaches composition from a shamanic perspective, applying not only a set of spiritual principles, but a set of technical principles as well. Rest, fasting, meditiation all factor into the creation of Matchess compositions, as well as consistent instrumentation; her Ace Tone organ, viola, a Rhythm Ace drum machine, magnetic tape all run thru effects and augmented by field recordings (recordings of a tributary of the Susquehanna River, a dog barking across the Allegheny Mountains, and an alien radio station in a New Mexican Arroyo, among others.), and Johnson’s own voice (sung using a vocal technique she coins the “sigil mantra”, a hybrid of a Buddhist mantra and Austin Osman Spare’s sigil). Sacracorpa is an album of songs of healing, and the truths it reveals. http://matchess.tumblr.com/music https://matchess.bandcamp.com/ TALsounds: Natalie Chami adopted the TALsounds moniker in 2009 for her solo explorations in the drone, ambient, and electro-acoustic improv disciplines. In live performance, Chami’s analog synthesizers weave together into drifting loops that evolve in tandem with her vocal leads and choral harmonies. Her meditative sessions stretch into hypnotizing depths of stream-of-consciousness multi-instrumental input, sinking into expanses of infinite sustain and cresting into bursts of noise from an arsenal of oscillators and effects pedals. After a series of tape releases on labels like Hausu Mountain and Moog’s own physical imprint, Chami released her first TALsounds LP, Love Sick, with New York’s Ba Da Bing Records. As a member of free music trio Good Willsmith, she has toured the country and released eight albums since 2012, including the LPs The Honeymoon Workbook (2014) and Things Our Bodies Used To Have (2016) on Mexico City-based label Umor Rex. Chami also performs as half of ambient duo l’eternebre. She is Lebanese, was born in Ontario, and lives in Chicago. http://talsounds.com/sounds https://talsounds.bandcamp.com/
