New Island Project Talk and Art Show
Lee (Rusty) Mothes will give a talk and slide show all about his New Island project, an imaginary island-nation in the Indian Ocean. He will talk about the island’s history, culture, and even land-buying opportunities. On display will be maps, landscape paintings, coins, postage stamps and his New Island Guidebook. He will also discuss his current writing project – a novel that takes place on the New Island. Lee (Rusty) Mothes loves the ocean and capturing scenes of surf and beaches. He is also fascinated with world-building, and has created an imaginary island-nation called New Island. It’s an ongoing project, and the latest phase is a novel-length story that brings the reader into the culture and some of the magic in this alternative reality. Lee grew up in Southern California in the 60’s, lived in Arcata in 1964-5, and later in the Bay Area and Mendocino County. He now lives in Wisconsin with his family, but returns to the Humboldt Coast when he can.
