Nurturing Biodiversity Tour
Join Sanctuary Forest on Sunday, May 6th for the “Nurturing Biodiversity Tour.” Hosted by Kyle Keegan and family, this tour/workshop on their “Fools Farm” in Salmon Creek will be an ecology-based hike that focuses on key elements of land stewardship. During this era of rapid global biodiversity loss, landowners can play a role in protecting and enhancing wildlife habitat on their land. The workshop will include oak woodland, forest and grassland restoration and habitat enhancement techniques for birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, native plants and pollinators. Information and examples will be shared on how to be successful with nest box designs and location, creating snags, mammal dens, ephemeral ponds and more! Participants will also learn about some of the unique natural history of Salmon Creek while keeping our ears and eyes alert for resident and migratory birds, active reptiles and busy pollinators. There will also be a brief introduction to the use of game cameras to monitor wildlife on your land. The hike will be moderate with some hill climbs. Please bring a lunch, water, sun hat and hiking shoes. Binoculars optional. Please meet at the Shop Smart parking lot in Redway at 9am to carpool. The hike is free of charge, though donations are gladly accepted and help us to offer this program year after year.
