Ocean Ranch Restoration
The Ocean Ranch Unit (ORU) is a restored area located within California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (CDFW) Eel River Wildlife Area of the Eel River Estuary. The restoration project was developed to expand estuarine habitat in the Eel River estuary, reestablish native plant biodiversity by removing invasive plant species, and to improve public access and recreation opportunities within the project area.
As part of this restoration event, we will be partnering with CDFW and the Wiyot Tribe Natural Resource Department to establish a Wiyot Cultural Demonstration Garden by planting culturally significant plants, plant native slough sedge in adjacent wetlands, and engage in invasive species removal. All ages and abilities are welcome and encouraged to come out!
