OnSomeBall is a Sanctuary community sound/music group based on improvisation and collaboration, designed to inspire both trained and untrained performers to practice the art of listening and responding to each other and environmental conditions. OnSomeBall prioritizes fun, surprise, wonder, inclusivity, therapeutic effects and connection with others.

Please join us August 31st for a special performance featuring the core OnSomeBall group that rehearses at the Sanctuary, plus some very special guests. Pieces performed will include “Circle Songs”, a method of spontaneous group composition where members add simple, repetitive parts one at a time to create a communal tapestry of sound, vocal experiments meant to create a metaphoric homage to the sound of water using voices and words, a piece inspired by the imperceptible pace of change sometimes found in nature (i.e. geological change) short musical vignettes inspired by poetry and spiritual readings, and more! Instrumentation will include voices, a wide array of percussion instruments and natural sound makers, brass instruments, accordion, piano, and various clarinets, flutes and stringed instruments.

You are invited to bring an instrument (or use your voice) and to participate in the second half of the show. Audience members will be asked to remember the one rule of OnSomeBall, “Respect=Listening”, and invited to help create pieces using simple, inclusive prompts.
