Opera Workshop: Dido and Aeneas
Witches and lovers clash when HSU Opera Workshop presents the lively and tragic love story of Dido and Aeneas in a relatively short opera (about an hour) by Baroque era English composer Henry Purcell. Set in the ancient world of myth, Dido (played by Olivia Bright) is the widowed Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas (Alberto Rodriguez) is a legendary Trojan warrior. A sorceress (Lorena Tamayo) and her witches plot to drive them apart. There’s high-spirited dancing, much-admired music and a tragic ending. Directed by Elisabeth Harrington, this is a full production with a cast of 18 and an instrumental ensemble conducted by Paul Cummings. It runs March 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on March 29.
