Plays in the Park: Angry Birdsong and Dr. Miracle

Arcata Redwood Park

Plays in the Park is back again this summer. All performances are located in beautiful Redwood Park in Arcata. Tickets are on sale now. Purchase your tickets online at www.cityofarcata.org/rec, through Arcata Recreation or simply the night of each play. Visit www.playsinthepark.net for more information or contact Calder Johnson: 834-0861, calder.johnson@gmail.com. Two comic operas in one evening! Come enjoy a double-bill of unusual and humorous stories told through the centuries-old art form of opera. In the two-woman show Angry Birdsong, (composed in 2013 by Milton Granger) an experienced life-coach zealously tries to prepare a young soybean scientist to survive in the competitive world of product marketing. In George Bizet’s Dr. Miracle, the well-intended and overgrown Mayor of Padua is overwrought because his young and beautiful daughter is in love with a lowly soldier. Things get progressively more complicated as the mayor is then duped by a curious stranger— again and again! The operas feature both HSU students and local community singers in lead roles, accompanied by HSU student-pianist Ryan McGaughey. Elisabeth Harrington is the Music director, and the stage direction is provided by Annika Bäckstrom. Soaring voices in the majestic Redwoods! What could be better? Performances: Fridays and Saturdays, July 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30 at 7 p.m. Admission: $12 general/$10 for students and seniors.
