On November 17th 7:00 p.m. Poetry Meets Jazz, with local poet Jerry Martien, RLA Jazz Trio and Gary Lewis, sax/flute. This retrospective show is at Trinidad Town Hall, in Humboldt’s tiny coastal village where Jerry began the nurturing of his writing about 40 years ago, with his book The Rocks Along the Coast. Since his first chapbook, The Rocks Along the Coast, written in Trinidad 40 years ago, Jerry Martien has published and performed his poetry in multiple venues throughout Humboldt County and northern California (including Westhaven Center for the Arts). Beginning in the 1970’s he hosted a long-running poetry series (supported by Poets & Writers) at Arcata’s Jambalaya Club, was a coordinator and poet-teacher with California Poets in the Schools, and taught creative writing for a decade at Cal Poly Humboldt. He has contributed to multiple anthologies, most recently Make It True: Poetry From Cascadia, and has published numerous poetry chapbooks and three collections of his poems, most recently Infrastructure: Dreams, Divinations & Dispatches From The Underground.
