The Siren’s Song Tavern

 

The first Thursday of every month, every seat is filled at the Siren’s Song Tavern with people who want to listen to poetry. The event is hosted by A Reason to Listen poetry collective. Co-founders Vanessa Vrtiak and Therese FitzMaurice alternately M.C. with interjections of deviance and wisdom. DJ Goldilocks spins old school funk and conscious hip-hop keeping the room lively, while an artist paints a vibrant scene behind the poets. Eileen McGee documents the night, which airs on Access Humboldt, and fifteen hopeful performers are chosen randomly at 7:20 sharp.
