Pony Express Days

Pierson Park, McKinleyville

Pony Express Days is a town celebration that was established in 1968, this year marks the 45th Annual.  It is a 5 day community event that includes a Clam Chowder Cook-off, Fireman’s Muster (fireman games), Pony Express Dance and Saturday’s Parade down Central Avenue that rolls right into the big Family Festival in Pierson Park.  On Sunday there will be Gymkhana, which is a series of competitive games on horseback.

Wednesday May 29th - Clam Chowder Cook-off in the Activity Center in Pierson Park - We are looking for amateur and professional competitors.

Thursday May 30th - Fireman’s Muster at the Ray’s Food Place Parking Lot - Cheer for your local fire departments as they compete in Fireman games.

Friday May 31st - Pony Express Dance at the Sapphire Palace at Blue Lake Casino.  Dance to Dr. Squid and wear your best looking boots to enter the boot contest.

Saturday June 1st - Parade & Festival - parade runs along Central Ave at 11am.  Then head over to Pierson Park for a family festival from 12-4pm.  Craft booths, food, beer garden, St. John & the Sinners, kid activities, horseshoe tournament and more!

Saturday & Sunday June 1st & 2nd - Gymkhana at the McKinleyville Rodeo Grounds at the Kjer Road arena

Sunday June 2nd - 0-2 & BBQ Softball Tournament - a coed wood bat tournament at Hiller Sports Complex $125 per team put on by McKinbleyville Parks & Rec. 839-9003
