Cal Poly Humboldt Reese Bullen Gallery Contact: Brittany Britton 1 Harpst Street, Arcata CA 95521 707-826-3629 brb24@humboldt.edu or Brittany.Britton@humboldt.edu February 4th, 2022 Event: Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022 New Art Exhibit from Julia Bradshaw showcases two photography projects together Julia Bradshaw: Photography as Material Julia Bradshaw: Photography as Material features Bradshaw’s two photography projects “Stacks and Shapes” and “Survey” shown side by side at Cal Poly Humboldt’s Reese Bullen Gallery. The exhibit will run from February 24th to March 26th, 2022. The public is invited to visit the gallery during open hours. Artist, curator and educator Julia Bradshaw presents her new project “Survey” which explores the material of astronomical photography to build and shape her art pieces. “My intent is to make observations about scientific images and scientific annotations and to create delightful confusion through wit.” Bradshaw writes. “Thus, I acknowledge the complicated relationship between photography and reality; and the slippage of scientific speculation between reality and conjecture.” Photography as Material also features an older project from Bradshaw called “Stacks and Shapes” which focuses on “creating topographical landscapes and geometric shapes from source-photographs that refer to the fore-edges and top-edges of paperback books.” More information about Julia Bradshaw and her work can be found on her website: https://www.juliabradshaw.com/index.html. A live artist talk with Julia Bradshaw will be presented Wednesday March 2nd from 5pm-6pm, zoom registration link can be found at https://art.humboldt.edu/galleries/reese-bullen-gallery/julia-bradshaw-photography-material. A recording of the talk will be available via the Cal Poly Humboldt Galleries website after the event. The Reese Bullen Gallery can be found on the Cal Poly Humboldt campus in the Art Building, near the corner of Laurel Drive and B St. in Arcata. The gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 12-5 pm., Thursday 12-7 pm., Friday 12-5 pm., and Saturday 10-2 pm. Admission is free.
