Redwood Invasive Plant Eradicators Evil Plant Kill-o-thon

See Event Description

When: Saturday June 7, 9 AM – 12 PM

Meeting Place: Storage Locker at Redwood Fields, see star on map at following link: https://www.riperadicators.org/upcoming-events.

Sponsors: RIPE and Humboldt Trails Council / Volunteer Trail Stewards

Supporters: A big thank you to Smart Dumpsters for providing two large dumpsters for the event and removing the green waste for free!
https://www.smartdumpsters.co/

Duration: 9 AM to 12 PM, but you must show up at the beginning. Free lunch from 12 PM to 1 PM. Tools and orientation will be done at the tool locker and then we will all make a short drive to the job site.

Activity Description: 1) eradicating Scotch broom with weed wrenches, 2) cutting down cotoneaster, 3) cutting down & digging out English holly, 4) piling everything into trailers & dumpsters to remove green waste from the area and 5) girdling the ivy on trees (not fruiting).

What to bring: we will have tools and safety equipment for everyone, but it helps us a lot if you bring your own. Bring thick long-sleeved clothing and water, and bring gloves if you have them.

Site Description: We will be working on a third of a mile of road on the border of the McKay Community Forest in Eureka.

Why This Matters: We will be limiting the invasives that have established a toe-hold next to the road and threaten to spread into the forest. Now is also the perfect time to kill Scotch broom, as it hasn’t developed its seedpods yet, but is about to.
