Release of Humboldt’s First Anthology of Painters
During September’s Arts Alive, Humboldt County will finally have its first published anthology of painters, Looking for Beauty: Humboldt’s Plein Air Community Shows Why Art Matters. It took three and a half years for Cyndy Phillips of SequoiaSong Publications to compile and design the book. The final product features thirty-seven of Humboldt’s plein air painters (from beginners to world renown professionals). The opening reception is scheduled for Arts Alive, September 3rd, from 6-9pm at the Redwood Art Association at 603 F Street, in Eureka, where the publisher will be on hand to sell the final 80 limited edition hardcover copies of the book. You’ll want to get there early if you want one of these collector’s items! The book’s release will coincide with the Redwood Art Association’s 64th Fall Exhibition show, the largest of the year, and it also serves as a fundraiser as half of all book sale proceeds will go directly to support the RAA’s Annual Paint Out. The release will be ushered in by the instrumental band, Squeezebug (a gypsy jazz band led by Stephen and Lorna Brown) and by Pat Knittle of North Story Wines who will be on hand to offer her award winning wines and ciders. A fine spread of food will be available as well. There should be quite a crowd of media, art lovers and book collectors present; we hope to see you there!
