Remembering Clint Rebik / Theatre Open House

Redwood Curtain Theatre

Redwood Curtain Theatre invites the public to an open house at the theatre to honor the life of theatre founder and Artistic Director Clint Rebik. The theatre company lost one of its founders on November 4, 2021 after Rebik endured a battle with esophageal cancer that ultimately took his life. Redwood Curtain is hosting an open house to honor and say goodbye to Rebik at the theatre on Friday, December 3, 4-8pm. There will be no formal program, but we hope people will take the opportunity to come by and visit the space that Clint helped create.

In 1999, Clint Rebik, Peggy Metzger and an enthusiastic and intrepid group of theatre artists formed Redwood Curtain Theatre. The organization started with a simple premise: produce quality theatre and pay artists for their work. According to co-founder Peggy Metzger “to the end, Clint and I argued about who’s crazy idea it was to create a professional theatre company in Humboldt County. But I also can tell you that neither one of us was willing to do it without the determination and vision of the other.”

More than 20 years ago, and steps away from its current home in old town Eureka, Redwood Curtain’s first show A Perfect Ganesh was produced at the Eagle House. After that show, the company moved to a more permanent home on the back side of The Eureka Mall, and then was happy to move back to old town Eureka in 2010. “In our 20+ years, we have staged more than 90 productions and paid more than 1,000 people for their artistic work” brags Peggy Metzger. She continues “Clint and I were both really proud to tell meaningful and important stories on stage, and to respect the artists we engaged in that endeavor.”

Rebik was an integral part of the organization, serving as the Artistic Director. He directed or acted in many memorable shows at Redwood Curtain. “Even when he wasn’t on stage or directly involved with a show, his fingerprints were on the production” explains local stage manager Jessica McKnight. “Clint provided notes and suggestions to directors to help them create the best possible show, he encouraged actors to deliver their best performances and he found creative solutions to endless production related challenges. He and Peggy together made Redwood Curtain a wonderful place for artists to share their work.”

Please join Redwood Curtain Theatre in bidding a fond farewell to our founder Clint Rebik. The theatre will be open the evening of December 3, to allow those interested in being IN the theatre space to say their salutes and goodbyes. The open house hours will be 4-8pm and complements the Celebration of Life for Rebik happening on December 4 at Blue Lake Casino’s Sapphire Palace. The theatre is located at 220 1st Street, Eureka.

Because life shouldn’t be all work and no plays!
