River Rage ‘64

Rio Dell Fire Hall

On Sat., Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be displays and presentations commemorating the 1964 flood, and information about ways to prepare for future natural disasters. The event will take place in the community room of the Rio Dell fire department, located on the north end of the main street, Wildwood Avenue. Organizations participating will include the Humboldt County Historical Society, CalTrans, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Humboldt State University library’s Humboldt Room, Redwood Memorial Hospital, the Eel River Recovery Group and the Humboldt County chapter of the American Red Cross. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be an open mic, a chance for those in attendance to share their memories and stories about the flood. People will be able to purchase a meat or vegetarian chili lunch with cornbread and beverage. Rio Dell fire fighters will be selling Christmas trees outside.
