Ruth Lake Cleanup
Celebrate National Public Lands Day (NPLD) and join us for the 3rd Annual Ruth Lake Cleanup on Saturday, September 28th at 9am!
Since 1994, NPLD lands on the fourth Saturday of September has been the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort. Last year, over 130 public lands hosted events with 7,600 volunteers donating an impressive 41,500 hours of service. NPLD is also a “Fee-Free Day” where entrance fees are waived at national parks and public lands. With support from federal and state agencies, corporate sponsors, and nonprofits, this event ensures resilient natural spaces for generations to come, encouraging volunteering and environmental engagement.
Last year at Six Rivers National Forest, we collected 2.1 tons of trash at Ruth Lake. Ruth Lake is a source of drinking water for over 94,000 residents. The water travels 75 miles from Ruth Lake to Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District facilities in Arcata where it is treated and distributed.
Let’s show Ruth Lake some love this National Public Lands Day! Participants will receive a free t-shirt and lunch will be provided by Van Duzen Elementary School. On top of that, participants will receive Fee-Free Coupons! Recipients will enjoy a day of fee-free access to participating public lands sites, including entrance and day use fees, for up to a year following National Public Lands Day (NPLD).
Meet at the Ruth Lake Marina in Mad River at 9am. We will split up into teams and meet back at the Marina at 2pm for lunch and refreshments. Bring:
• Water
• Sun Protection
• Close-toed Shoes
Boats are not required; all boats must be inspected at the Marina for Zebra and Quagga mussels.
Organized in partnership with Six Rivers National Forest, Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District, Ruth Lake Community Services District, Van Duzen Elementary School, and NEEF. For more information, visit our event page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1157574068797569
