RWP’s Place-Based Learning Series
RWP’s new placed-based learning series discusses the theoretical reasoning for incorporating place-based learning into the classroom, and demonstrates how to apply this concept by taking participants on various place-based learning field trips. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the natural resources of Trinidad, the musical/theater/performance scene of Humboldt County, and the inner workings of one of area’s local farms. At each site, participants will explore how a place-based curriculum can promote writing of all kinds, from research writing, to scientific logs, to script writing. Participants wanting to earn a full unit of credit will then take the place-based model and design field trips/activities for their own classes, demonstrate how they will incorporate writing into such activities, and present their units/finds at the final session.
