Samba da Alegría invites all of our community dancers to join us for our 2022 North Country Fair parade! This event is a long-standing artistic tradition of Arcata and this year’s theme is SPREAD YOUR WINGS, an exploration of freedom through movement. Community members of every age, ethnic background, gender, and physical ability and are enthusiastically welcome to connect via the healing power of dance. No dance experience is needed to participate. In class will learn Samba no Pé (Río style) choreography and dance to live drums, directed by the amazing Neil Bost! This year we are adding non-choreographed contingencies so that we can include small children, people with disabilities and those who might not have the time or ease to learn choreography. This group will only need one rehearsal/meeting before the parade. The date will be set after the registration deadline which is August 11th. There will be 2 costume options for the choreographed wings, and 1 or 2 options for non-choreographed. The cost of these will be announced before the registration deadline. We are super excited to celebrate with you all again, inspired and FREE to be ourselves! I will keep everyone updated on this. Cost for classes: $15 Drop-in / $10 Students $120 if paid by July 14th (2 free classes!) Registration deadline: August 11, 2022. Cost is $30. Payment options: cash, check or Venmo @Rocio-Talavera *We offer alternatives for our community lower income members. No one will be turned away from the parade for lack of funds.
