Snails of Humboldt Workshop

Humboldt Coastal Nature Center

From the endangered Trinity Bristlesnail to the invasive New Zealand Mudsnail, Humboldt county has a lot to offer when it comes to snails. In this workshop you can learn about what makes snails important, learn to identify the local land and freshwater snails, and learn to differentiate invasive species from their native look-alikes.

We are planning on an hour lecture to go over ID and natural history before heading out the door to explore the Dunes to get some experience identifying snails in the field!

About the presenter:

Rowen Freebird’s passion for land snails started with a pet snail in high school who sent them on an unending learning journey they are still on nearly a decade later. Rowen first came to Humboldt county while working with the California Conservation Corp, where they immediately fell in love with the unique diversity of land snails in Humboldt. Rowen is currently a student of Zoology at College of the Redwoods, where they are continuing to expand on their studies of gastropods.
