Spotlight on Native Bees
Native bees are indispensable to California’s ecological and agricultural landscapes. With approximately 1,600 native bee species thriving in the state, these pollinators support the reproduction of wild plants and bolster crop yields critical to food security. From the industrious bumblebees to the solitary mason and leaf-cutter bees, each species contributes uniquely to biodiversity and ecosystem health. Native bees are adapted to local environments, often outperforming non-native species in pollinating specific plants. Their diverse behaviors, such as buzz pollination, ensure the survival of countless plant species
