Sun Up to Sun Down

See Event Description

Creative Sanctuary presents: “Sun Up to Sun Down”, a musical exploration of the unending power of dance with Miles Schmidt, Friday September 4th, Arcata Playhouse.

Using Jazz and Tap dance, Mile’s Schmidt’s “Sun Up to Sun Down” takes listeners on a journey through the course of “a day in the life”. Mile has selected pieces from the Jazz repertoire (and arranged them for a 5 piece band) to convey the feelings of waking up from early morning dreams, of working and play, labor and imagination, of worry and hope, and finally the return to sleep as the journey comes home and the stars begin to shine.

Creative Sanctuary is excited for this opportunity to present Miles’ vision as he explores the connection between music, dance and philosophy. The music will range across many different tempos and feelings, rooted in jazz and stretching into the avant-garde to help push listener’s conceptions about the varied emotions tap dance can convey, and the ever present connection between music, movement, and life.

Miles has appeared on several Sanctuary Jazz Shows in the last 2 years. He will be joined by James Zeller, trombone and vocals, Ramsey Isaacs, drums, Matt Seno, piano and Lee Phillips, upright bass. Tickets available at SanctuaryArcata.org
