See Event Description

Come join Sara Tanis and Amanda Lee from the California Conservation Corps’ Watershed Stewards Project (WSP) on Saturday, May 24, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the 2nd Annual Big Foot Spring Clean event. WSP will be teaming up with the United States Forest Service, the Big Foot Rafting Company and the Dream Quest Teen Youth Center to clean up the Trinity River and celebrate World Fish Migration Day (WFMD). “World Fish Migration Day, connecting fish, rivers and people, is a day when community members can come together and help improve their local rivers for all migratory fish” says WSP member Sara Tanis. The Big Foot Spring Clean is a trash removal effort targeting the stretch of the Trinity River which runs through the town of Willow Creek. Volunteers will collect garbage from the Hlel-Din River access to the Big Rock River access. Rafts, guides and safety equipment have been generously donated by the Big Foot Rafting Company. No rafting experience is required. Volunteers should bring a lunch, water bottle, sun protection, a wide brimmed hat and work gloves if they have them. Bathing suits, non-cotton clothes suitable for rafting, and water shoes (no flip flops) should be worn. All volunteers must be at least 10 years old or older, ages 8-9 may attend if accompanied by an adult. Since there are a limited number of rafts available, please RSVP no later than May 17th, 2014 by contacting Sara Tanis or Amanda Lee at (530) 629-4485. All participating volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the Big Rock River Access point in Willow Creek off of HWY 96. The mission of the Watershed Stewards Project (WSP) is to conserve, restore, and enhance anadromous watersheds for future generations by linking education with high-quality scientific practices. A project of the California Conservation Corps, WSP is sponsored by CaliforniaVolunteers and administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
