The Black Faun Gallery Grand Reopening
The Black Faun Gallery is celebrating their Grand Reopening at their new location at 2nd G in Old Town during October Arts! Alive. The inaugural exhibition includes work by Portland artist, Jesse Reno and Eureka artists Sarah Lesher and Sheldon Skillie. Jesse Reno’s Black Faun exhibition is titled “Between Stars and Spirit.” Jesse is a self-taught painter, muralist, educator and musician who has made more than 4,000 paintings, shown in 100+ galleries and has taught painting in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia. This prolific artist creates what he calls “neo-primitive” art in his Portland studio, where the public can drop in and experience Jesse’s creative process. Sarah Lesher’s series of work for this exhibit is titled “data crush.” Sarah is a Humboldt-grown artist working in paint, printmaking, design and sculpture. For “data crush,” Sarah created ink from a variety of symbolic plant material. Sheldon Skillie was born in Mountainview, CA in 1973. His father is Kaigani Haida, from Hydaburg, Alaska and his mother was Ogallala Lakota, from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Sheldon’s ultramodern Haida design style is a fusion of abstract expressionism and classic Northwest coast design. This auspicious event will be marked by gongs tuned to the frequencies of Jupiter and Venus played by Joan Richards.
