The Body Discourse Project
Students from Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre’s 2016 M.F.A. class, Trajectory, an arts program for adults with disabilities, and Synapsis, an experimental art collective, have come together to present The Body Discourse Project: a performance about the physical and mental experience of the human body performed by artists with and without diagnosed mental and physical disabilities. The project serves as a platform for those living with disabilities to freely speak and express themselves as well as challenge how disability is defined through words, gesture and music. Each performance will be followed by a talk-back with the artists. The group’s belief is that life is richer when diverse voices are engaged; this performance aims at creating a new framework for understanding the ability/disability continuum and developing the social landscape. Premiering at Redwood Raks World Dance Studio, 824 L St in Arcata, CA on Sunday, March 6th at 7:00p.m., tickets $10 or PWYC, and appearing at Dell’Arte’s Carlo Theater, 131 H Street in Blue Lake, CA on Tuesday, March 8th at 7:00p.m., FREE. Tickets available at the door or by calling 707-407-6094. Performance suitable for ages 13+
