The Latin Peppers
Opening our 2014-15 season we are pleased to present The Latin Peppers a group comprised of musicians with many years of performing experience throughout the North Coast. Led by trombonist and arranger Jimmy Durslag, the group plays classic and contemporary Latin jazz and dance music. Jimmy has appeared with numerous Latin bands including local favorites Ponche and Kachimbo. He teaches the Latin ensemble at the annual Lark Music Camp in Mendocino.
Orlando Morales plays congas, timbales and percussion. He has been a stalwart of the Latin scene in the San Francisco Bay area for many years. Rounding out the group are Andy Barnett trumpet; Lee Phillips bass; Tim Randles piano and Jon Lewis on congas. The Latin Peppers’ repertoire ranges from John Coltrane to Tito Puente, Buena Vista Social Club and Mongo Santamaria, all featuring a compelling rhythmic feel that showcases tight ensemble playing and soulful improvisation. Be sure to join us for some infectiously high-spirited small-group jazz.
Concert time is 7:30 p.m. at the Fortuna Monday Club, 610 Main Street in Fortuna. Ticket prices are General Admission $10; Students and Seniors $8.
