Trinidad Blood Drive

The Trinidad Civic Club is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, March 13th from 12 pm – 6 pm at Murphy’s Market, 1 Main Street, Trinidad. “After hosting blood drives for many years in the past, the Civic Club is resuming sponsorship as one of our ten annual, community service projects because of the dire need for life-saving blood,” said Jan West, Co-President of the Civic Club. The Club is appealing to those who are able to donate to ensure that our local hospital shelves are stocked with blood daily to save lives. Blood donation has been in a decline. The statistic used to be that 5% of the eligible population gave blood, but recently that number has fallen to only 3%. People take for granted the stable blood supply in their local hospitals and don’t think about whether or not blood products will be readily available. “The goal is to recruit enough donors to fill up all the available slots on the Trinidad schedule, so we hope our Greater Trinidad Area community will respond. Tasty treats will be served all day with pizza from Headies Pizza & Pour, 4 – 6 pm.” The Northern California Community Blood Bank supplies blood to all of Humboldt and Del Norte. Each day over 60 pints of blood and blood components are required to meet the needs of hospitals served by Northern California Blood Bank. Blood donations are critically low nationwide and this has effects on the entire population, including our neighbors, friends and families.
