Viva La Causa! Cesar Chavez Day Celebration
MCC’s Youth Alive! will be hosting a community event in celebration of the legacy and vision of Cesar Chavez.
We invite students, parents, and community members to join us for an evening of presentations, workshops, and a feature film screening that focuses on the empowerment of cultural diversity and higher education.
Guest speakers and presenters include members from F.R.E.E. (Finding Resources and Empowerment through Education), an active club at Humboldt State University that strives to provide leadership by encouraging advocacy, values, and customs that will lead to the continued recruitment, retention and graduation of low-income and undocumented students.
Special Film Presentation Following:
Then at 6pm as part of their Not Your Average College Bound Film Series, and in collaboration with TRiO Talent Search, Youth Alive! will be screening, Real Women Have Curves (2002). See our dedicated page about this film presentation.
In celebration of Cesar Chavez Day, this month’s film tells the story of Ana Garcia, a Mexican-American teenager who lives in the East Los Angeles barrio and has dreams of a higher education. The film explores the balance of culture and family with the aspirations of achieving one’s own personal goals.
This event is also free and open to everyone. (Parental Advisory, PG) The film starts at 6:30pm.
We invite you to observe, share your knowledge and experiences, and support the diverse strength of youth in our community!
