Workshop: Cuttlebone Casting
Make your own small piece of jewelry, jewelry element, textured sheet, or decorative object.
Metalsmith Tressa Thompson will guide you through creating molds from cuttle fish bone, casting from grain, and final finishing.
Cuttlebone Casting is a traditional casting technique where molten metal is poured into a carved-out cuttlefish bone, which is soft enough to manipulate with a fingernail. The bone’s porous calcium carbonate interior creates a layered terracing that determines the surface of the casting.
All supplies included.
