Wusatoumuduk: We Make It Burn

Sequoia Park

“Wusatoumuduk: We Make it Burn” is a new play about Cultural Fire produced by Sugarbush Hill Moving Lhatsik, a Dreammaker project of the Ink People led by Michelle Hernandez (Wiyot) and Zuzka Sabata. The play emphasizes the urgent need to embrace time-honored land stewardship practices that have supported ecological balance for millennia. Featuring local Native cast members, nationally acclaimed Native director Tara Moses (Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, Mvskoke), and traditional Wiyot stories told through shadow puppetry. All shows are free and all ages appropriate. We encourage bringing camping chairs, blankets, flashlights, and dress warmly. For updates visit our IG: Wusatoumuduk

This show is one of two dates featuring a pre-show panel of local fire experts, who will discuss their work in cultural, prescribed, and wildland fire, the local intentional fire movement, and why transforming relations with fire is essential for community wildfire protection and ecocultural revitalization. The panel will be moderated by Wusatoumuduk Outreach Coordinator Cleo Woelfle-Hazard. Other local fire practitioners, identified by a handmade badge, will be on hand after the panel for one on one conversations with audience members interested in burning in their homelands or getting involved with the intentional fire movement.

Panel: 6:00 pm - 6:45 pm
Informal discussions with fire practitioners: 6:45-7:15
Showtime: 7:30 pm

October 18, Sequoia Park, Eureka
Panelists Olivia Chase (Hoopa / Tsnungwe), Isha Goodwin (Karuk), Sarah Vroom, Heather Rickard
